Working in oil on panel, Breidenthal creates paintings that glow, emanating a light from within them, a preternatural luminosity without a discernible source. Conjoining sky and land, albeit occasionally painting the former on its own, where the sense of beginning and end are a beautiful, foggy mystery, he implies both a connection and a breaking point where the tangible and intangible meet. Utilizing depth and vivacity of color, as well as illumination, Breidenthal manages to produce imagery at once stark and startling while familiar and beautiful.
While his artwork is deeply influenced by rural scenery throughout America, he says “for the viewer, I hope the work extends past an agreeable composition and links them to their own story and history.” His work has been shown throughout the US and abroad and is included in many permanent collections such as MMG Worldwide, The Faulconer Gallery, the W Hotel Collection, and Viceroy Snowmass. A Missouri native, Breidenthal lives and works in Kansas City.
