This piece is part of Emma Ashby's August '22 solo, Nature’s Beauty.
"When I contemplate the beauty and colors of nature, it enriches me. It restores me. In a world where there is so much that can drag us down and depress us, beauty is food for our souls. And nature is an inexhaustible source of beauty. It’s particularly in the color of flowers and landscapes that beauty transports me to a place of joy and tranquility. It’s been said that colors are the smiles of nature. This series of paintings is an invitation to enter my landscapes, to smile with nature and yearn for more beauty."
Emma Ashby grew up on the East Coast of England, UK, where her deep affection for coastal landscapes was cultivated. It’s a love affair that has continued to grow in her twenty years of living on the East Coast of New England and is reflected in the atmosphere and emotion of her paintings. Emma paints with pigmented molten beeswax, which is an ancient medium called ‘encaustic’. She lives in Portsmouth NH and has an MA from the Royal College of Art.
