Kenley Darling: A Winter Migration

Even in the midst of wintry climes, the beauty of butterflies can be experienced. On view from December 2 through January 1, Nahcotta presents the work of Portsmouth artist Kenley Darling, who'll include a massive installation of paper butterflies in flight in the gallery as part of her solo exhibition. The opening reception will be held on Friday, December 2, from 5-8 p.m., concurrent with Portsmouth’s downtown art walk and free and open to the public.

Kenley says this about her work:

Hidden In each caterpillar, there is a butterfly.

Hidden in each one of us,
There lives a spirit that connects us to all other living things.
Tucked away, inside our hearts,  there is a wish for our future and a prayer for our past.
In a time where the world seems so focused on what it is that separates us -
I think it is important to shift our focus
to the things that connect us ...
The things that bring us together.
We are one Human family
Each day, stepping into our future.
We are a kaleidoscopic of butterflies, preparing for a winter migration.
