Nahcotta is incredibly excited to present the first solo show with artist Lily Raymond, from February 1 through February 24. The opening reception for Raymond’s solo show, titled Apophenia, is free and open to the public and will take place at Nahcotta on Friday, February 1, from 6-8 p.m.
While Raymond has been exhibiting her work with Nahcotta in group shows for several years now, this is the first solo show exclusively of this Portsmouth, New Hampshire artist’s work with the gallery. Painting predominantly in oil, Apophenia will actually be a collection of both her oil and gouache pieces and promises to be just as enchanting as past incarnations of her creations. The title Apophenia is borne from the psychological term for the tendency in perceiving connections within random, unrelated things. Poetically linking a key and a matchbook, pressed flowers and sewing pins, feathers and a single antique nail, Raymond brings together seemingly disparate objects which somehow seem magically related to one another by the power of her hand and her imagination. Apophenia inspires us to perceive common objects with wonderment, bringing each and all of them together into a singular realm of profound beauty.
