Nahcotta proudly presents the newest collection of paintings by California artist, Matt Adrian, otherwise known as The Mincing Mockingbird, showing August 5 through August 28. The opening reception, free and open to the public, will take place at Nahcotta on Friday, August 5, from 5-8 p.m. Adrian himself will be in attendance at the opening reception.
Depicting octopus-eating pelicans and emboldened peacocks, sweet finches and lonesome birds on their way to extinction, Matt Adrian gives every single creature grace, distinction, and gallantry. Giving his acrylic portraits, large and small, long and poetic titles like “Fairy Stories and Legendary Tales Told in the Darkest of Dystopian Nights, on the Shore of a Rising Sea,” Adrian “juxtapose(s) the primal existence of birds with the often awkward folly of modern human existence.”
Living and working in Los Angeles, Adrian’s art has been featured in Sunset magazine, Bust magazine, Country Living magazine, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe, the San Francisco Chronicle, and others. Adrian has published three books - It Is Folly To Assume My Awesome Lies Dormant: The Paintings of the Mincing Mockingbird, The Mincing Mockingbird Guide to Troubled Birds, and his most recent - I Have Heard My Praises Sung In Screams: The Paintings of the Mincing Mockingbird Volume II.
