From January 3 through February 2, Nahcotta will be exhibiting the newest work from artist Melissa Ambrose in a solo show titled Altostratus. The opening reception will take place at Nahcotta on Friday, January 3, from 5-7 p.m.
As evinced in her work, Ambrose is besotted with and fascinated by the sky and its never-ending iterations, revisiting chaotic cloud formations, the edge of the skyline meeting the jagged tips of trees, the dreamy aquamarine expanse dotted by a flock of birds in flight. Her work is predominantly executed in watercolor, acrylic, or gouache on vellum, Bristol board, or panel and the gallery expects work within these same mediums to be included in Ambrose’s exhibition. A New England-based artist, Ambrose has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design and is also a cellist in the local symphony. While she has shown in our Enormous Tiny Art exhibitions, this is her first solo show with Nahcotta.
