For the entire month of November, Nahcotta presents the newest work from artists Michael Dandley and Liza Sylvestre. On view from November 4 through November 27, the opening reception will be held on Friday, November, from 5-8 p.m., concurrent with Portsmouth’s downtown art walk and free and open to the public.
Working from her studio in Urbana, Illinois, Liza Sylvestre creates incredibly intricate images that can only be described as graceful, brilliant, and richly colored Rorshcach tests. Painted with acrylic on panel, these creations emerge, for the most part, from the beauty of natural elements, resulting in a series of mysterious recombinants interwoven and entwined. The vibrant, bold work of Michael Dandley, fearless in its hyper-pigmentation and bombastic imagery, consistently renders what could have been misconstrued as a straightforward and quotidian landscape, cityscape, or tableau, into something paranormal and fantastical. Living and working in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Dandley's acrylic gouache on paper pieces share that sense of otherworldliness and spectral inscrutability so prevalent in Sylvestre's work - colorful and enticing, baffling and beautiful.
Join the gallery in celebrating this exhibition on the evening of Friday, November 4, from 5-8 PM. Nahcotta is located at 110 Congress Street in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
