Sami Lange received her BFA in printmaking in 2005. She makes original stitched paper quilts with personally hand dyed paper and thread. Her work is inspired by the expansive, extraordinary, and heavy loads women carry in their everyday lives. Conscious of the myriad responsibilities and choices that fill each day, Sami looks for moments of respite in the beautiful desert landscape near her home in Phoenix. She takes in the daily joy and humor that often happen unexpectedly in her roles as a mother and artist, all of which is reflected in her work.

This piece is part of a series about highlighting the lightness, rest and joy we need and often find in unexpected places. Each piece in this series is slightly “puffy” surprising the viewer when interacting with the work in person. Not entirely visible without looking at the work from an angle, each piece is raised into a unique paper pouf. Each work includes hand cut, hand dyed and stitched paper by the artist.
