Shae Warnick is an artist and naturalist with a BFA in intaglio printmaking and an MFA in painting. If she’s not making art, she’s usually outside learning the names of things or opening drawers in the research collections of natural history museums. Her work explores modern perceptions that are distancing people from nature, and as a curious layperson, she seeks to find the ideal balance between science and sentiment. Some of her subjects include birds, plants, fish, birds, bugs, and birds.

This piece is part of Shae's "Collectors Garden" show. Over the course of the 18th century, the British busied themselves with gathering plants from across their global empire, consumed with creating a botanical commonwealth. In this series, “The Collector’s Garden,” you’ll find species offered up by the American colonies that ornamented British natural history books and wove themselves into British gardens
