This painting is gouache on paper that measures 7" x 7" and is matted and framed bringing the overall dimensions to  9.8" x 9.8". There is a sawtooth on the back of the frame making it ready to hang.

This piece is part of Annalisa Salis' show Wildflowers, which was created between April and May 2022 and was inspired by the wild plants and flowers she encounters in her frequent walks all year round. Wild plants include those that can be spotted in remote places as well as those that can be found growing along the curbside, or are tackled as weeds as they carpet private gardens. 

“It’s fascinating how especially in spring you are suddenly surrounded by so many of them, with their variety of shapes, colors and dimensions. It’s like they briefly grant us with the opportunity to see them and enjoy them, before disappearing again when the sun becomes too hot.”

While working on this project she learnt their names, find out about their uses and get to know the stories and folklore associated to them, a whole world opened up.

With this series of paintings she imagines to invite these charming beings to the intimacy of our homes and get the chance to look at them closely.

Annalisa is an artist and illustrator with a passion for nature, stories and expressing a sense of place. She works with gouache, pencils and occasional touches of gold leaf. She lives in the island of Sardinia, Italy.
