This piece is flashe on panel. Flashe is a vinyl based paint, similar to acrylic, which allows for painting on any surface and maintains powerful colors.  The 11" x 14" panel is fixed into a floating frame that brings the outside dimensions to 12" x 15". This piece is wired and ready to hang.

Katherine Dunlap is sensitive to the ways in which our natural environment shapes first-person experience. She is not only interested in the physical and aesthetic details of our surroundings, but our emotional response to their presence. Whether it be an idealized memory associated with a specific location or an instinctive reaction to a natural space, her work seeks to marry the physical and emotional forms of her environment. Katherine was born 1990 in Gainesville, Georgia. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing from the University of Georgia in 2013 and currently has a studio in Charleston, S.C.

This piece is part of Katherine's 2022 web show, Passing Through, which is a body of work inspired by her recent cross-country trip from South Carolina to California. "I wanted to paint the moments I glimpsed while driving in the car and from the towns in which we stayed for only a night. I am always interested in seeing how other people live and I can’t help but imagine what my life would look like if I actually lived in the towns we only passed through. This trip made me feel connected to a larger group of people who have also driven from coast to coast. I only hope that this body of work sparks a reminder of this group's personal experiences."
