Michael McConnell is a San Francisco based painter who has found a connection to animals and nature within his work. Through his observations he creates narratives about isolation and innocence, expressed in his use of color and environments of the animals he chooses to paint. When not in his studio he can be found running a local coffee house or exploring nature in the Bay Area with his partner and son.
This series of work is inspired by the Joni Mitchell song, "Coyote". A song about the relationship difficulties created by people from "different sets of circumstance". Michael uses the natural relationship between predator and prey to portray these relationships. Each pair dependent on their conflict to exist, while they also try maintain their own narrative as individuals.
