Often dreamlike and enigmatic, Christine Brennan’s features a host of symbolic and allegorical references. Brennan’s images draw from the unconscious leading the viewer into richly-lit narratives that evoke personal stories and associations. Brennan works mainly in oils sometimes with gold leaf. Never setting out to illustrate a specific theme or story, the artist just creates each image as she goes, changing and shaping along the way. That each untitled image may call forth different interpretations is a balance the artist strives for. Christine Brennan studied at the Rhode Island school of design earning a B.F.A. In illustration. She lives in Ojai California with her husband, furniture maker Jim McCarthy.
