This piece is based on Harold and the Purple Crayon, by Crockett Johnson.

From Christine: This children’s book is embedded in my memory. Looking back from my middle-aged artist self, I think of Harold like a God: a little baby-person grabs something to draw with and simply creates anything he needs in life.

What a perfect metaphor for inventing what we want in the world.
This simple, spare children’s book has stayed with me in its quiet magic.

Christine Brennan studied at the Rhode Island school of design earning a B.F.A. in illustration in 1987.  She is currently represented by galleries in Ojai and Santa Barbara CA, Dallas TX and Boise Idaho.  She has had numerous shows in galleries from Washington State to Vermont.
