About this collection:
Google Maps: I began this series in 2016 as a way to explore landscapes that were not immediately accessible to me. Using Google Maps as a vehicle, I embark on virtual road trips through familiar and foreign territories, toggling around an area the way a plein air painter might scout locations. I select sites based on personal importance, passing interest, and compositional elements, often with an eye toward the navigational markers and distorted perspectives that frame the experience. The paintings that follow reflect a romantic relationship with the landscape, and curiosity about the many filters through which we understand place.
