Wendy Whatley creates three-dimensional, textured, and detailed works of art using watercolor painting and hand-cut paper–all meticulously glued in layers. She combines the striking graphic qualities of plants and other natural elements with the nuance of detail to give them life. In the past, she has used hand-built ceramics and watercolor to explore these same botanical themes. By day, Wendy enjoys work as a visual designer for a tech company and she recently published a children's book called Forest Friends, which is available on Amazon.
This piece is from Wendy's ETA34 collection. In Wendy's own words: "This ETA #34 collection is my third to use hand-cut paper and watercolor. With this round, I'm finding my groove with this medium and enjoying delving deeper into the craft to explore the next level of possibilities. I was excited to create more layers with some of my works like “Lush” and "Thorn" and for the first time, a bird as well."
