This piece is acrylic on panel. The artwork is 20"X16" in a floating wooden frame measuring 21"X17" and is wired on the back making it ready to hang.
Shae is an artist and naturalist with a BFA in intaglio printmaking and an MFA in painting. If she’s not making art, she’s usually outside learning the names of things or opening drawers in the research collections of natural history museums. While the subject of her work is nature, the subtext is all about humans. Besides broad allusions to specimen gathering, non-native species, and the decorative use of nature, the references can also be very particular: like the patina of a leaf that was dried in an oven. Shae's interested in how hidden, yet apparent the human element can be.
