Emma Ashby grew up in England, where her deep affection for coastal landscapes was cultivated. Today, she continues to be inspired by the coastline around her home in Portsmouth NH. Emma paints with an ancient medium called ‘encaustic’ and has an MA from the Royal College of Art.

About the medium: Encaustic involves blending pigments with molten beeswax and resin, dating back to ancient Greece. Artists apply and fuse colored wax layers using heat, creating textured, luminous works. Versatile techniques like scraping and embedding enhance its expressive potential, offering a durable and visually captivating artistic medium.
