About the Artist
Jenn Joslin creates place-based visual art that blends conservation science with poetic personal narratives to inspire informed connection with our natural world.
About this collection: These pieces, collectively called "Shadow Song", capture my feelings when I get a glimpse of a songbird peeking out from the dense forest understory. While out walking, hiking, or birding I am often attuned to the songs and calls of our local bird species, but getting eyes on these small, quick creatures is often difficult. After scanning a blur of green foliage for what sometimes seems like (and often is) hours, the sudden spark of gold on a kinglet's crown or a flash of the bright, fluffy white cheek patch of a chickadee fills my heart with joy. The fulfillment that comes from experiencing these small, intimate moments is my treasured reward for the slow and sometimes uncomfortable practice of devoting time and attention to discovering the endless wonders held within my local land base.
