Caring For Your Jewelry
Hard Gemstones
Care: Clean with warm water and mild soap using a soft brush, avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners, and pat dry with a soft cloth; store separately so harder stones don't scratch softer ones.
Stones: Diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald, aquamarine, morganite, tourmaline, topaz, garnet, spinel, tsavorite, chrome diopside, amethyst, citrine, quartz, herkimer, zircon, peridot, iolite, chalcedony, chrysoprase, carnelian, agate, onyx, vessonite, etc
Soft + Porous Stones
Care: These soft, porous stones scratch easily and absorb liquids, so keep them away from water, chemicals, lotions, sunscreen, and perfume; never soak them, and simply wipe with a soft, dry cloth and store separately.
Stones: Turquoise, lapis, apatite, larimar, chrysocolla, malachite.
Pearls
Care: Wear them often but apply cosmetics and perfume first, wipe gently with a soft cloth after wearing (never soak), and store in a soft pouch or cloth rather than an airtight container so they don't dry out.
Opals
Care: Opals contain water and can crack if dried out or exposed to heat, so avoid chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, and extreme or sudden temperature changes, and clean gently with a soft damp cloth.
Delicate Stones
Care: These stones are susceptible to chipping or fading from impact, heat, or sudden temperature changes, so handle them carefully, remove during rough activity, avoid ultrasonic cleaners, and clean only with mild soap, cool water, and a soft cloth.
Stones: moonstone, labradorite, grandidierite, sunstone, kyanite, tanzanite
