Gretchen grew up near the coast of Maine and played in the woods a lot. She studied art at Bates College and spent one semester in Rome with the Tyler School of Art. She left a graphic design job to be a mom for several years before becoming a professional artist and now works out of her home studio in Westford, MA.
Collection Title: "Frederick's Color Prayers"
Does anyone remember the book, "Frederick" by Leo Lionni about the contemplative mouse? He was called out as lazy by the other mice when he wasn't helping to build up the food stores, but when winter came, he provided warming color stories that he had collected during the other seasons. This collection of paintings makes me think of the times in winter when it's dark and you need bite-sized color memories to sustain you.
