Pronounced ver-may. Gold electroplated onto a sterling silver base — which matters, because sterling holds more value than the brass or copper under most gold plate, and it's kinder to sensitive skin. To meet the US standard, the gold layer has to be at least 2.5 microns and at least 10 karats. Vermeil earns its place: it's beautiful, wearable, and accessible. It just asks a little more of you. Take it off before swimming or showering when you can. Treat it like something worth keeping.

Gold plated jewelry has its place, but its lifespan is short: the thin layer wears away with everyday exposure to moisture, sweat, and skin — often within months. Copper and zinc, alloyed. A warm, golden tone that reads somewhere between yellow gold and raw earth — and has for centuries. Brass takes texture and detail exceptionally well, which is why independent jewelers and studio makers keep coming back to it. It's honest about what it is, and it ages well. Brass develops a patina over time as it oxidizes. Some people leave it. Others polish it back to bright. There's no wrong answer.
