Minimal yet detailed, Suze Riley’s intricate mixed media collages explore nostalgia, finding meaning through signage, objects and typography.
About this collection:
"(Enormous) Tiny Banned Books by Suze Riley"
Over the last 4 years, book bans across America have reached a level not seen since the 1950s. I created this series of tiny banned books to showcase and celebrate some of the all time most banned and challenged books in public schools and libraries across the US.
Everyone should have the right to access and read a diverse range of literature, and I hope in some small way my tiny artworks encourage people to read, share and protect access to these incredible books.
I have previously created a number of tiny books as commissions for publishers and authors, and in 2024 was commissioned by the Women’s Prize to create tiny book portraits for the shortlisted Fiction & Non-Fiction authors.
Medium: Mixed media collage, gouache, acrylic
Dimensions: 9.5" x 8" x 1.5"
Integrated frame, ready to hang
San Francisco, California, USA
